Marriages in India

Matrimonialvivah

Recently, I read an article about how a girl thinks that she would not make a good "Indian bride" and gave her reasons for the same which I thought were laughable. But after researching a bit more I was shocked as to how right she was. For instance people in India still expect the girl to take the boy's surname for no other reason than to stoke their own ego. The girl HAS to be well educated but after her marriage she should sit at home and give up her career for which she has worked her whole life. What kind of bullshit is that? Marriage advertisements have become nothing short of a sale. They read "Young girl, 25 years in age, beautiful, educated, good cook, has Indian values, does not have male friends". Of course because if a girl has friends other than girls she can only be a loose character kind of girl can't she? Is this the face of modern India? India has evolved to become the most hypocrite country of the world. We ramble on about how advanced we have become, how modern we are. But in reality, are we really progressing when we have the same mentality as the people did a hundred years ago. Girls are still expected to stay at home, not have a say in any of the household affairs, not talk to males other than those of her family and so many stupid rules which I cannot even count. And the worst part is that even many of the educated guys also want only these kind of girls for God alone knows what reasons. When will we grow up enough to accept that girls are meant to be our equals and not someone who is our servant, someone with whom we walk with at our sides and not lead on like a dog? When will that happen, I ask you? All the stupid demands for dowry, changing of surname, giving up the careers for families, accepting love and inter-caste marriages that has to happen for India to progress because only when everyone progresses will India progress. Think about it guys, would you accept a girl just because of the fact that you love her and ask her not to give up her identity and girls, well I hope you can find a man who understands how YOU want to live your life with him and not vice versa.
